Soap is soap, right?
WRONG
There is a huge difference between mass produced commercial brand soap and handmade soaps and there’s an even bigger difference between "regular" soap you buy at a big box store and goat milk soap. Part of this is because of what commercial soap companies do to their soap and part is because of the amazing properties of goat milk.
Let me drop some knowledge on you. After all, your skin is your largest organ and you owe it to yourself to treat it right. Here are some benefits of goat milk soap:
Glycerin
Goat milk soap ( actually, any handmade soap) contains glycerin. In an effort to get more bang for their buck and turn a bigger profit, large soap manufacturers strip the glycerin from their soap and replace it with detergents and other chemicals that can be harsh and drying to your skin. The companies then take that glycerin and put it into lotions - so they sell you a soap that dries your skin and then turn around and offer you a lotion to replace the moisture- seems pretty shady if you ask me... 🤔 Handmade soap, on the other hand, still contains glycerin which is a humectant and helps draw moisture into your skin.
Vitamins & Minerals
Goat milk soap is high in vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin A and selenium. Both have been found to help in repairing damage and maintaining healthy skin. Goat milk also contains calcium, potassium and magnesium and vitamins B,C and D. Since goat milk soap gets rid of the layer of good-for nothing, free-loading dead skin cells (see #3 below), it is able to deliver these vitamins and minerals directly to the healthy, new skin below.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Have you every heard of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)? A lot of hoity toity (=expensive) skincare products boast about the benefits of AHAs and guess what? They naturally occur in goat milk. AHAs, such as lactic acid, help remove dead skin cells (yuck) so when you use goat milk soap it helps slough off the dry, lifeless skin cells, leaving your skin soft and smooth.
It's High in Fat (in this case FAT=GOOD)
When it comes to soap, fat is good because more fat means more moisture for your skin. Goat milk can contain 6-10% butterfat whereas the majority of other soaps are made with water which contain 0% fat ( if your water has fat in it, you may need to look into that, just sayin'). A lot of skin issues (especially dry skin) are due to a low level of lipids and the high fat and cholesterol content in goat milk soap helps repair and rehydrate your skin's membrane
Gentle Cleanser
It’s important for a soap to be gentle, yet effective and goat milk soap has just the right combo of these qualities. It’s able to remove dirt and grime without stripping your skin of moisture or leaving it feeling tight or itchy.
